Packed with disc management and media organizing features, the newest incarnation of Roxio Creator is a powerful suite of tools for creating, safeguarding, and sharing digital multimedia.

Unlike many programs designed to offer similar functions, Roxio Creator NXT 2 puts great effort into keeping its modern user interface as simple as possible, a challenging task considering the sheer quantity and quality of the software tools included in the software suite. The original purpose behind earlier releases was to burn data onto DVDs and CDs, consistently creating working discs full of media, but the software has evolved far beyond this original function. There are still the same mature software modules that carried Roxio to its prestigious position in the optical disc backup industry, but new tools ensure that the preserved video clips and audio tracks are edited to perfection. Video tools snip away unwanted seconds, allowing the user to act as producer and editor of a project. There are also options to convert video files to other formats, to join them, to create artistic films full of transition effects, and much more. The audio features accomplish much the same tasks, delivering the power to capture audio from multiple sources, including old-school LPs and cassettes. There's some fun to had in editing out the pops and hiss from old recordings, restoring the audio to its pristine former glory.

The video and audio editing tools alone should provide enough reason to consider purchasing the software suite, but if potential media editors remain unconvinced, there are additional tools to strengthen the case for Roxio Creator. A backup tool perfectly preserves any kind of data, offering peace of mind in case of a hard drive failure. A fun photograph archiving section stores precious memories in physical formats while transforming those memorable shots into a slideshow for playback on a standard DVD player. This same software engineering prowess continues to add more options, including a function to convert video to play on any mobile platform and a handy facility for sharing media projects on social networks.

The sheer number of burning and media management tools could also be considered the biggest drawback of this software suite. Due to the added features, current versions of Roxio Creator tend to be bloated and excessively slow. The program sucks up computer resources, but users should remember this potential slowdown is balanced against a powerful feature set.
